Outdoors Recreation - 4-Wheel Driving

Use Licola Wilderness Village as your base to explore the Alpine area. We can offer some of the comforts of home at a reasonable cost - self-catering facilities, comfortable beds, hot showers, an open fire in the leaders' room, washers and dryers and a drying room, indoor games stadium and undirected outdoors recreational opportunities in our very picturesque setting. Bookings are essential. For large groups we can arrange to cater for some or all of your meals when you book in advance.

The Licola township has a General Store that sells fuel, groceries and maps among other things. There is also a caravan park and bunkhouse.

Anyone in virtually any vehicle can enjoy the spectacular scenery of Licola. The main road from Heyfield to Licola is sealed for the 56km trip. While it has some winding sections, the road is of good standard . Allow more than an hour for the trip. Once you are at Licola, you can still follow the bitumen for another 23km along Tamboritha Road through the Wellington River valley. After that, it's pretty much 4WD country.

A 224km tour starting from and returning to Licola can be completed in two long days (but better to allow three days) and is detailed on the Gippsland Tourism site www.gippslandinfo.com.au. Follow the link to Rooftop Mapping Services for maps and further details. This tour takes in eleven of the most popular cattlemen's huts east of Licola, many of which are easily accessible from the roads.
